On November 8, 2010, Nelsonville City Council adopted Ordinance 44-10 which required owners of rental property to provide to the City basic information about each property in their control, either as owner, owner in equitable title or owner in legal title.

The ordinance says in part that

“…the regular collection of accurate, easily accessible, and up-to- date information regarding ownership and responsibility of rental property is necessary to assist City officials in the enforcement of police, fire, code, and income tax regulations and to protect the value of real property…” and “…that a rental registration program is a reasonable step toward insuring suitable, safe housing and healthy, viable neighborhoods…”.

For clarification, a rental dwelling unit required to be registered is defined as

“…any structure or part thereof used by a person or persons other than the owner for residential purposes. Rental dwelling units may also be known as a rental dwelling, rental unit, dwelling unit, or housekeeping unit and may be a mobile home, manufactured home, or industrialized unit…”.

At the time of adoption there was no registration fee per dwelling unit required. On May 23, 2016, Nelsonville City Council adopted Ordinance 24-16 which required an annual registration fee of twenty dollars ($20.00) for every dwelling unit subject to Ordinance 44-10: Rental Property Registration.

The City of Nelsonville is now collecting fees for the year 2017. If you, as a landlord, have already registered your properties, please submit payment to:
