    The City of Nelsonville announces that the fall leaf pick up has been suspended for the week of Monday, November 22 through Friday, November 26, 2021, due to staffing issues. If you have leaves that need picked up after November 26 until Wednesday, December 15, 2021, please follow these steps for curbside leaf pick-up:

    1. Rake leaves to curbside, DO NOT include branches, sticks, grass clippings or tall grass. These can clog and damage the equipment and cause delays. City crews will not be raking any leaves.
    2. DO NOT rake leaves into the street. This can clog storm drains.
    3. DO NOT pile leaves around fire hydrants, street signs or utility poles.
    4. DO NOT PARK in front of leaf piles on pick-up days.
    5. When your leaves are curbside and ready, schedule curbside leaf pick-up by using Nelsonville’s “TextMyGov, text “Hi” to 740-265-3858 and a series of texts will guide you through the reporting process, or call, 740-753-1314, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

  • Mill Street Repaving

    Monday, November 1st through November 10th

    The City of Nelsonville announces that crews will start preparing Mill Street for repaving on Monday, November 1, 2021, so it can be paved on November 9 and 10, 2021.

    No on street parking will be permitted during this time. In an effort to maintain traffic to residents, crews will be working in sections by removing 120 feet of roadway and base at a time followed by repaving. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.


  • Street Line Painting

    Monday, October 25 - Friday, October 29, 7 am - 7 pm

    The City of Nelsonville crews will be performing street line painting Monday, October 25, 2021, through Friday, October 29, 2021, from 7:00AM to 7:00PM to the following streets,

    The streets will have temporary closures as line painting is performed on each street. The closures may extend into evening hours. Streets will reopen to traffic as the paint dries.   • Street Crack Sealing Scheduled

    The City of Nelsonville announces that street crews will be performing street crack sealing to the following streets,

    • Tuesday, September 28, 2021:
      Nelsonville Public Square.
    • Wednesday, September 29, 2021:
      Fayette Street from Jefferson Street to the Ally by the Athens County EMS station. West Columbus Street from Madison Street to West Canal Street

    All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 7:00PM. Streets will reopen as the sealing product dries, which could be up to 16 hours depending on weather conditions. On street parking is not permitted while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.


  • Road Closure

    Church Street, Between St. John and St. Charles Streets

    Monday, September 20th, until 5:00 pm

    The City of Nelsonville announces that Church Street will be closed between Saint John Street and Saint Charles Street Monday, September 20, 2021, until 5:00PM, Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

    Motorist can use Saint John ally as a detour until the street reopens.

    The street is being closed for a water line installation project. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.


  • Crack Sealing Scheduled

    The City of Nelsonville announces that street crews will be performing street crack sealing on Friday, September 17, 2021, through Thursday, September 23, 2021, on the following streets.

    • Monday, September 20, 2021 - North side of Columbus Street from the Public Square to Jefferson Street, the east bound lane will remain open to traffic.
    • Tuesday, September 21, 2021 - Rocky Boot Way.
    • Thursday, September 23, 2021 - Fayette Street.

    • The crack sealing on Thursday August 26, 2021, will be applied on the North side of Fayette Street.
    • The crack sealing on Friday August 27, 2021, will be applied on the South side of Fayette Street.

    All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM. On street parking is not permitted on the side of the street affected while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.


  • Street Crack Sealing Delayed

    For Columbus Street and Fayette Street

    The City of Nelsonville announces that the street crack sealing to be performed on Columbus Street and Fayette Street has been delayed due to equipment problems. The street crack sealing project will be rescheduled when the equipment problems are resolved.


  • Hocking River Level Staff Gage to be Installed on SR 278 Bridge

    Wednesday, July 28, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm

    The City of Nelsonville in cooperation with the National Weather Service Office in Charleston, West Virginia will be installing a Hocking River level staff gage on the Lake Hope Drive, (SR 278) bridge. The staff gage installation will take place on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Crews will be working in the Hocking River under the bridge and on the bridge deck during this time. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area during this time and watch for workers on and around the bridge.

    The river staff gage is being installed to help officials better monitor river levels. The gage will help to get a better idea of what levels will cause impacts to the Nelsonville area once, it is correlated to the Athens gage downstream.

    What is a staff gage? Staff gages look like oversized rulers, that are permanently installed in a body of water. They provide a quick visual reference of the water level. Their simplicity and effectiveness mean they are quite useful in monitor changing water levels.


  • Street Closure

    Mill Street, beginning Wednesday, July 21, 8:00 am

    The City of Nelsonville announces that Mill Street will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 8:00AM and remain closed for approximately (3) three weeks. Access will be made available to the residents of the street. The roadway is being closed so that crews can replace water lines along the street. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.


  • Mill and Kotner Street Intersection Closure

    The City of Nelsonville announces that the intersection of Mill Street and Kotner Street will be closed to traffic on Thursday, July 15, 2021 and Friday, July 16, 2021 between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:30PM each day. The roadway is being closed so that City crews can replace utilities in the intersection. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

    The City of Nelsonville announces that Chestnut Street, from East Canal Street to Burr Oak Boulevard will be closed to traffic on Monday June 21, 2021, at 8:00AM until Thursday June 24, 2021. This section of Chestnut Street is being closed for cleaning and finishing asphalt paving. Please avoid this area.
