    The City of Nelsonville announces that Church Street will be closed between Saint John Street and Saint Charles Street Monday, September 20, 2021, until 5:00PM, Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

    Motorist can use Saint John ally as a detour until the street reopens.

    The street is being closed for a water line installation project. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.


  • Crack Sealing Scheduled

    The City of Nelsonville announces that street crews will be performing street crack sealing on Friday, September 17, 2021, through Thursday, September 23, 2021, on the following streets.

    • Friday, September 17, 2021 - South side of Columbus Street from the Public Square to Jefferson Street, the west bound lane will remain open to traffic. Rocky Boot Way will also be closed to Columbus Street.
    • Monday, September 20, 2021 - North side of Columbus Street from the Public Square to Jefferson Street, the east bound lane will remain open to traffic.
    • Tuesday, September 21, 2021 - Rocky Boot Way.
    • Thursday, September 23, 2021 - Fayette Street.

    All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM. Streets will reopen as the sealing product dries, which could be up to 16 hours depending on weather conditions. On street parking is not permitted while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

    • The crack sealing on Thursday August 26, 2021, will be applied on the North side of Fayette Street.
    • The crack sealing on Friday August 27, 2021, will be applied on the South side of Fayette Street.

    All sealing work will take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:30PM. On street parking is not permitted on the side of the street affected while sealing work is being performed. Motorists are asked to please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

    The City of Nelsonville announces that the street crack sealing to be performed on Columbus Street and Fayette Street has been delayed due to equipment problems. The street crack sealing project will be rescheduled when the equipment problems are resolved.


  • Hocking River Level Staff Gage to be Installed on SR 278 Bridge

    Wednesday, July 28, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm

    The City of Nelsonville in cooperation with the National Weather Service Office in Charleston, West Virginia will be installing a Hocking River level staff gage on the Lake Hope Drive, (SR 278) bridge. The staff gage installation will take place on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Crews will be working in the Hocking River under the bridge and on the bridge deck during this time. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area during this time and watch for workers on and around the bridge.

    The river staff gage is being installed to help officials better monitor river levels. The gage will help to get a better idea of what levels will cause impacts to the Nelsonville area once, it is correlated to the Athens gage downstream.

    What is a staff gage? Staff gages look like oversized rulers, that are permanently installed in a body of water. They provide a quick visual reference of the water level. Their simplicity and effectiveness mean they are quite useful in monitor changing water levels.

    The City of Nelsonville announces that Mill Street will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 8:00AM and remain closed for approximately (3) three weeks. Access will be made available to the residents of the street. The roadway is being closed so that crews can replace water lines along the street. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

    The City of Nelsonville announces that the intersection of Mill Street and Kotner Street will be closed to traffic on Thursday, July 15, 2021 and Friday, July 16, 2021 between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:30PM each day.     The City of Nelsonville announces that Chestnut Street, from East Canal Street to Burr Oak Boulevard will be closed to traffic on Monday June 21, 2021, at 8:00AM until Thursday June 24, 2021. This section of Chestnut Street is being closed for cleaning and finishing asphalt paving. Please avoid this area.


  • Street Sweeping Begins Monday, April 26, 2021

    Street Sweeping is Day After Trash/Recycling Pickup Day

    Please no parking on the street these days!

    The City of Nelsonville will implement a city-wide street sweeping program starting Monday, April 26, 2021. The streets will be swept Monday through Friday of each week. Citizens will be required to use an alternate on street parking spot the day their side of the street is swept. As shown on the attached map, the city is divided into five (5) sections. In each section, even numbered days the South and West sides of streets will be swept, and on odd numbered days North and East sides of streets will be swept.

    To help in remembering your street sweeping day the street sweeping schedule follows the trash and recycling schedule. As an example, if your trash and recycling is picked up on Monday, then your street will be swept on Tuesday.

The roadway is being closed for the replacement of the bridge over Monday Creek including the approach pavement and guardrail. Please avoid this area and use an alternate route.

    The City of Nelsonville announces that Pleasantview Avenue will be closed from Fort Street to Scott Street, and there will be no on street parking Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 7:00AM until 4:00PM.

    The roadway is being closed for Asplundh Tree Expert Company to trim trees for American Electric Power. Pleasantview Avenue traffic will be detoured onto Scott Street. There will be no on street parking on Scott Street from Fort Street to Pleasantview Avenue to allow for two-way traffic for the day.
