The City of Nelsonville announces that Mill Street will be closed from Kontner Street to Poling Avenue, Monday, June 29, 2020 through Thursday, July 2, 2020. The roadway will be closed each day from 7:00AM until 6:00PM. The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.

Oak Street from Clinton Street to Lancaster Street

The City of Nelsonville announces that Oak Street will be closed from Clinton Street to Lancaster Street, Monday, June 29, 2020 through Thursday, July 2, 2020. The roadway will be closed from 7:00AM until 6:00PM. The roadway is being closed for an R&R Pipeline gas line repair project, weather permitting.

The City of Nelsonville Code Enforcement Office wants to make the residents of Nelsonville aware that noxious weeds, vines or grasses growing a height of eight (8) inches or higher upon property, within the City of Nelsonville after the first day of April of each year are a public nuisance and that at all times the accumulation and deposition of garbage, refuse, rubbish, special rubbish and litter on public or private lands, dead or dying trees, broken or fallen branches and plants or shrubbery blocking visibility or encumbering access, are obstructing the view of vehicular traffic on public streets, alleys or grounds, are obstructing pedestrian travel on public sidewalks, are obstructing light from a public street lamp, are so dead, decayed or broken as to pose a threat to life or property or where trees or limbs have already fallen constitute a public health and safety hazard and public nuisance or any other vegetation of rank growth including, but not limited to, ivy, poison ivy, Virginia creeper, Japanese knotweed and bamboo.

The penalty for violating section shall be deemed guilty of a minor misdemeanor and fined as provided by Ohio Revised Code §2929.28. Each day’s violation shall constitute a separate offense. Any person initially convicted of a first offense and found guilty of a second and subsequent offense in the same year shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth and escalating degree for each additional offense.

The Code Enforcement Officer will continue to aggressively enforce the requirements of these Code sections. A resident who is given a Notice of Code Violation will have 10 days to comply with the Notice. Failure to comply with the Notice will result in a Civil Citation and a summons to appear in City of Nelsonville Mayor’s Court.

The City of Nelsonville Water Department has canceled the boil order for Madison Street from West Franklin Street to Edwards Street, West Franklin Street from Madison Street to Adams Street, Lancaster Street from Sheppard Street to Clinton Street.

The meeting of the Nelsonville City Council Police and Fire Committee will meet Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 7PM. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss boarding and cleaning up condemned houses and properties and to discuss fire equipment. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, the public may not attend the meeting in person.

Madison Street, from W Franklin Street to Cross Street

Wednesday, June 17 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Nelsonville Water Department announces that Madison Street will be closed from West Franklin Street to Cross Street, Wednesday, June 17, 2020. The roadway will be closed from 8:00AM until 4:00PM, during these times the water will be turned off to make emergency repairs to a fire hydrant. Once water service is restored, a boil order will be issued to the affected areas. Weather permitting.

The City of Nelsonville announces that East Canal Street at the Chestnut Street South “Y”, will reopen to traffic Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 9:00AM. At the same time Chestnut Street will be closed from East Canal Street at the South “Y” to Burr Oak Boulevard until October. Access to local residents and business will be maintained. This construction is to install new sanitary sewer lines for the new wastewater treatment plant on Elm Rock Road.

Please use an alternate route when possible and be patient when travelling though the designated work zone.
